Spring has finally arrived in Vancouver and to the North and East, so too have the fires. Enormous wildfires have started up in Northern BC and Alberta in an early start to what we now just accept as normal in “fire season.” While the fires rage, record setting temperatures have already appeared across the globe.
Closer to home, the living room is chock full of tomato and pepper seedlings looking for our night time temperatures to stay consistently in the double digits. Something I have started doing since the start of the growing season always seems to be shifting, is to put out a few of the tomato seedling “runts” that I have thinned out from the stronger growing ones. By putting out a few of these smaller and weaker plants earlier, I get valuable information about whether it’s warm enough yet. The seedlings I planted outside just over a week ago look quite dire but are hanging on. This tells me I was right to wait for a bit but with temperatures expected to hit the high 20s and maybe even flirting with low 30s this week, I’m getting ready to fill my containers with tomato and pepper seedlings.
I hope wherever you are, you are far from smoke and wildfires and also beginning to prep for the growing season!
I have uploaded a few more videos the Last Ditch YouTube and will be adding lots more soon!
